Logan and I got bored last night, so we call up 'Clasky, since he finally got all moved in to his new house in Boulder. We got on the train to Union Station around 7:30 or so, and boarded the BX around 8:05. We got into Boulder around 8:50 or something, then we met up with him and his roommate Chris at Cosmo's Pizza. I found out later that night that they make white pizza, which I should have got instead of my regular bacon. Logan had me try the ranch sauce there, it's quite possibly the best ranch ever.
After that, we piled into Chris' car (the interior panel on my door was missing) and headed over to look at their new house. It's a pretty swank place, but it's also quite expensive.
That was fun, but eventually got boring, so we drove back to the plaza and went up to the Hookah House. We smoked and played what they called the "Asian Card Game." It was fun, and a good smoke. We were there until about 11p, then Logan and I caught the B back to Union Station. Got on E-line, then got home somewhere around 12:45a. I guess they went out to take pictures or something, while I went to bed.
I gotta say, being able to ride out to Boulder like that is awesome. We'll probably go visit Chris and people a lot more now.
Oh man.
I'll just start at Friday afternoon. I've been taking support calls, starting this week. There's a lower call volume, and most of the questions are pretty simple or just telling the user "pay us $95/hr to fix it or RTFM."
Around 4p, Craig picks up one of the empty growlers from the bookcase, and he heads out to Rock Bottom to pick up some beer for Beer Friday. Cool - I was used to free beer every quarter, but I think I can manage with every Friday. After work, I rode down to Market Street Station and picked up a 10-ride ticketbook. I'd actually been riding RTD for free most of the week. Riding the singlespeed around downtown is a lot of fun. Riding it is fun in general, but the hills can quickly kick my ass - especially through the DTC. I enjoyed riding through the DTC - it's almost totally empty on the weekends, so no cars to bother you on these big open roads.
When I got home on Friday afternoon, Logan and I were hungry, so we drove about five or six miles down to Park Meadows to the closest Buffalo Wild Wings. (No Jim's! emo tears.) We watched some of the Olympic opening ceremonies, but the transmission (coming from downtown Denver) was getting garbled. Apparently, there was a huge storm headed our way. As we left the building, facing west, I saw nothing but dark clouds. Something like, "holy shit." Then, we got around to the other side of the establishment, and saw the dark, hell-like vortex ripping open the sky like goatse on crack to the northeast.
We started the drive home, and decided it might be fun to head downtown and get some pictures. We got on RTD at Yale Station. Logan didn't bring a jacket and I was wearing my crappy shoes, so we both got relatively soaked. Both the TVMs were broken because of the rain, so Logan couldn't buy a ticket. Oh well, right?
We were leaving the Colfax / Auraria station, and had to cross over Cherry Creek, which was entirely flooded. It was awesome, there were emergency vehicles everywhere once we got downtown. We headed into the building, because Logan wanted to take some pictures from the 7th floor, and I needed to pick up a phone.
A bit later, we got home and I pretty much just went straight to bed. Today, I got up around 10 or 11 (I completely value weekends now) and headed down to Target. I love how I used to complain that it was a two mile drive down Horsetooth to get there. Now, I have to get on I-25 south, drive about 4 miles, exit Arapahoe, then do the same in reverse. I picked up a baking sheet, a knife, and some washcloths. Went to Safeway and got breakfast items - eggs, biscuits, gravy mix, muffins...the works. Made up some biscuits 'n' gravy, then watched Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay, which turned out better than I'd hoped. It was long, but it didn't slow down.
Later, I was bored and decided to go for a bike ride. Turns out, I rode about 9 miles. Pretty fun. When I got back, I took a shower and Kevin showed up. We went down to Micro Center, Kevin needed a new fan for his graphics card. On the way home, we stopped at King Sooper's for some grocery shopping. I picked up fried chicken, Boulder slaw, and a Cherry Coke. I thought about getting a Cherry Pepsi, but Jennifer would have disowned me. Paul would likely have as well.
We got home, had dinner, played around in the cul-de-sac, and in a few minutes, we'll head downtown for stuff.
Ok, so I've got a bit more time.
I visited MY GIRLFRIEND last week. One of the best weeks ever. Not only that, but it was a much needed vacation. During said vacation, Kevin called and let me know that we'd secured a place to live here in Denver.
Got back on Saturday night, drove from DIA to Del Taco in Frederick, then up to Mom's house. We took Lynn's truck to the old house, loaded up everything, then got moved in on Sunday morning. I did a test ride up to Yale Station, and was surprised to find it only took about 8 minutes to get there. Once on the train, it's between 25 to 35 minutes to get to the Convention Center / Performing Arts center station. Then, it's less than a minute to get to 910 15th. A pretty sweet deal.
So far, everything's going pretty well. Work has been a big learning experience. I'll probably start taking calls today. I might even set up my own Asterisk box at home to play around with. Also looking forward to the weekend...sleeping in will be lovely.
I've got a new job in Denver, working for Teliax, a small VoIP provider. Logan has been talking with Beatport, an itunes / napster clone for indie underground. Kevin is looking into school and is point on finding us a place to live.
We think we may have found a place off Yale and Monaco. It's nice, because it's very close to a Safeway, and not too far from Yale Station. That will make mine and Logan's commutes much easier.
I'm a little crunched for time. The people in the house we're moving into should be closing on their new house this week, so we should be able to start moving things in. I then have to catch a plane early on the 30th, and then I get back on the 2nd. I then have all day on the 3rd to do whatever needs to be done. We have to be out of the house by midnight on the 1st.
So, I need to get my stuff out of Trenton Manor, put it somewhere (hopefully the new house) and then go on vacation, then come back, maybe move things into the new place if they're not there already, and then go to work the next day.
It should prove to be pretty fun.
So, here's what happened.
I'm in the left lane on Drake, headed westbound. A gold Corolla is also in the left lane, about two, three car lengths in front of me. We're quickly approaching Stover, which is closed southbound of Drake. There is a barricade in the left turn lane, indicating that you indeed, cannot turn left onto Stover.
The gold Corolla changes lanes into the right lane, still heading westbound. I am slowly passing the Corolla, as I am still in the left lane, still heading westbound. The driver of the Corolla decides, "Hey, I need to turn left on Stover!" Without checking his blind spot, or maybe even his mirrors, he turns straight into my lane. I slam on the brakes, but I don't stop before the front right of Jetta the Jetta hits the left rear of the Corolla. (yes my car is named Jetta the Jetta)
Boom. Just like that. I've even got pictures! (click "read more" for pics)
Dearest readers,
If you were to, say, re-design turtlemadness.net, how would you go about it? Would it be Web 2.0, with large, pretty fonts everywhere? Would it be design-oriented? Would it stay the same?
It's pretty minimalist (barren) right now - what would you want to see?
Witness the Tektonik movement. It's taking over France faster than Hitler and the Bubonic Plague combined. These guys are straight but try to appear as gay as possible. Their uniform consists of old school Nikes with the tongues out, tight jeans and goofy sweaters. They abstain from drugs and alcohol. Mullethawks are their haircut of choice. And, most notably, they dance in a way that is indescribably hilarious.
