Circus Circus
I remember a time where I was a politically-charged individual. I supported candidates with an incredible fervor because I felt that they could do a terrific job leading this country.
And now I look at the election and I see the most childish, hypocritical, unfocused circus that it is. When Sarah Palin was announced as McCain's VP I was relieved and said to myself, "Okay, youngish mother, son has Downs syndrome, political experience, how can this go wrong?" Then I kept reading, and I found some stuff out. A lot of it was meaningless fluff, stupid hype dug up by someone and then shackled to what we are being told to believe is importance. But it isn't important. I think this is #2 on the list of Things I Hate Most About Elections, the media hype that leads to emphasis on the most retarded shit.Things like "Her daughter is pregnant" and "He doesn't know how many houses he has" or "He didn't cover his heart during the pledge" are, to me, such minor issues when it comes to picking the candidate, yet everyone on TV foams at the fucking mouth over them.
I care about different things, and I was absolutely shocked when I read that Palin, at one point in her political career, attempted to have books banned at her public library because they contained offensive material.
Anyone who has EVER considered banning books, or just being that big a proponent of censorship, clearly has no grasp on the American dream. Strangely, I think
But the number one thing I hate about elections is that, it's a rigged game. Seriously, it is now a system that has evolved into a one-or-the-other setup, both nearly polarized on views, yet so large that any candidate who does not subscribe fully to one party or the other is essentially screwed on the ticket. I looked at the DNC and saw nothing but a pep rally, which is really nothing more than a huge circle-jerk. Instead of running their candidate through fucking ropes courses to see if he was, for certain, a person they felt could lead this country, the entire week was spent with fanatic followers sucking off a person they revered as the second coming of Christ.
For example, I posted my little fauxtest thing on a large forum a few days ago. The post included pictures of the protest, making the signs, and the video, but it also included a short insight on how I saw the DNC in Denver, a teenie weenie Weight Watchers version of what I am writing now. One of the first replies was, "I didn't read the OP, but Obama ROCKS!" And that, right there, embodies everything that is wrong with this election. I see Obama HOPE t-shirts and, before my eyes, the words change to "HYPE". And the same goes for the Republicans!
I am terribly saddened by the realization that the current two-party system will forever provent a true, progressive moderate from ever having a shot at leading this country. I fear that I will never see someone stand before hundreds of thousands of cheering people while saying things like "Religion has no place in government schools, just as the government has no place in regulating things like marriage," and "A woman should have the right to choose, but no child should be unwanted," or "Hate Crime laws are pointless if their purpose is to encourage people to be treated as equals," and "The preservation of the environment is important, but at what point does trying to preserve things go againt the natural order of Change and become us playing God?"
I'm so disenchanted by my political choices, it's like trying to decide which brand of Piss soda you want to drink with your shit cake.
